The bamboo is a species of the grass family that grows in the tropical and subtropical regions of the world, mainly in South East Asia, Africa and South America. It has been widely planted as an ornamental plant for its beautiful appearance and easy care. They can grow up to 4 meters tall and are commonly referred to as bamboo trees. This plant is not only used as an ornamental plant but also as a source of food and medicine. Bamboo forest is evergreen and perennial. The bamboo groves are one of the fastest growing plants in the world. 

In China, there are more than 1000 varieties of bamboo grass. In Japan, there are about 200 types of bamboo grass. China is the largest grower of bamboo in the world. There are many different species of bamboo grass in other countries such as India, Indonesia, Vietnam, Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand and so on. Tropical bamboo species include Dendrocalamus, Bambusa and Phyllostachys. 

You can cultivate bamboo grass if you want to have some bamboo plants at home. Usually bamboo planting is done during the rainy seasons. If you want to grow bamboo grass indoors, you should choose a place where it receives plenty of sunlight. Also, you should prepare the soil before planting bamboo grass. You should water them regularly. When harvesting bamboo, you should be careful because it may cause injury to your hands.  You should wear gloves when harvesting bamboo grass.

They contain carbohydrates, proteins, fats, vitamins, minerals, fiber, and amino acids. They are considered as a delicacy in many parts of the world. 

Some of the health benefits of consumption of bamboo can include lowering high blood pressure, reduces diabetes, prevents cardiovascular diseases, improves digestion, prevents constipation, reduces inflammation. It has antioxidant activities as well.

Bamboo is considered as a Chinese symbol of friendship and a symbol of uprightness.
